This Privacy Policy applies to Velato's consumer-facing services, including the website, shared-library pages, waitlist forms, and the iPhone application. Velato is operated by CONSI SOFTWARE LTD.
Velato is designed to help people digitize physical bookshelves, organize their libraries, share library pages by link, and receive book enrichment and market value estimates.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use Velato, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account information, such as your name, email address, profile photo, auth provider identifiers, and sign-in method.
- Library content, such as book titles, authors, publishers, years, subjects, descriptions, reviews, ratings, shelf structure, bookcase names, and related library metadata.
- Uploaded media, such as shelf scans, bookcase photos, frame images, and cover images you submit through the app.
- Generated outputs, such as extracted book data, enrichment results, matching diagnostics, valuation progress, and market estimate summaries.
- Device and usage information, such as push notification tokens, app interactions, analytics events, network diagnostics, browser type, and approximate device type.
- Waitlist and communication data, such as an email address you submit to join the waitlist or receive release notifications.
3. How We Collect Information
We collect information in a few different ways:
- Directly from you when you create an account, upload images, edit books, share a library, or join a waitlist.
- From your chosen sign-in provider, including Firebase Authentication and the login providers you use through it, such as Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In.
- Automatically from your device or browser, including analytics, push-token registration, and operational logs.
- From third-party catalog and market data sources used to enrich books and generate estimates, including sources reflected in the current codebase such as Google Books, Open Library, Amazon catalog data, Amazon market data, and eBay market data.
4. How We Use Information
We use information we collect to:
- Authenticate users and manage access controls, including whitelist and waitlist flows during beta access.
- Process shelf scans, identify books, enrich metadata, and organize libraries and bookcases.
- Create and display shared library pages when you choose to generate a public share link.
- Generate market value estimates and valuation-progress updates for books and libraries.
- Send product and service communications, including push notifications if you opt in.
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service, including through analytics and diagnostics.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
6. Push Notifications and Waitlists
If you allow notifications in the iPhone app, we may collect and store a push notification token so we can send product notifications, including valuation-related alerts. You can disable notifications in your device settings at any time.
If you submit an email to join a waitlist, including the Android waitlist on the website, we use that email to manage access, communicate availability, and notify you when the relevant service becomes available.
7. Analytics and Service Providers
We use service providers to help run Velato. Based on the current product code, these providers may include authentication, analytics, notification, storage, and database providers such as Firebase, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, Mixpanel, Firestore-based services, MongoDB-backed infrastructure, and cloud storage vendors.
These providers may process information on our behalf for product operation, analytics, authentication, notification delivery, hosting, storage, and security.
9. Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain user libraries, support shared links, send requested communications, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Different types of information may be retained for different periods. For example, waitlist records, analytics records, uploaded images, and library metadata may each be retained for different operational or legal reasons.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect information under our control. That said, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Choices
- You can choose what library data and media you upload to Velato.
- You can decide whether to create a shared library link.
- You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
- You can choose whether to join the waitlist or provide a release-notification email.
- You may be able to update or delete certain content directly in the app.
12. Children
Velato is not directed to children under 13, and we do not intend to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the consumer service.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the service.
